High-performance optical parametric oscillator on a silicon photonic chip

April 3, 2023
Comparison of output power vs input power for different optical parametric oscillator technologies

Chip-integrated optical parametric oscillators provide a compelling approach for creating laser emission at user-tailorable wavelengths. In a recent article in Nature Communications, we demonstrate how to achieve high-performance in such a device, reaching output powers as high as 20 mW with conversion efficiencies as has as 30 %.  We realize this performance by tailoring resonator-waveguide coupling and utilizing novel phase- and frequency-matching techniques to suppress potential competing processes.
